ThyssenKrupp Elevator Americas confirmed that the firm eliminated 22 positions at the company’s Middleton plant.

The plant manufactures and assembles elevators and elevator components for low-, mid- and high-rise buildings.

According to company officials, the action was necessary due to continuing challenges in the economy and the construction industry in particular, said spokesman Stephanie Hoefken.

ThyssenKrupp Elevator Americas oversees operations in North, Central and South America. It is a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG.

Through its predecessor companies, ThyssenKrupp has been part of the U.S. business landscape for more than 170 years, Hoefken said in a news release.
