40 Workers laid off at Marva Maid plant

About 40 employees at the Marva Maid dairy plant in Newport News were laid off on Tuesday.

That is about 20 percent of the workforce at the facility located on Chestnut Avenue in the East End of the city.

The company blames the layoffs on the recent loss of a key customer.

Marva Maid has been in business on the Peninsula since 1920 and said it processes 25 million pounds of milk per month.
