American Airlines to cut 9 RDU work force

American Airlines plans to lay off nine of its baggage workers at RDU in early April, according to a local union representative for the carrier.

Union rep Glenn Jeanes says that the changes were made in part because flights have become more spread out over the course of the day.

American Airlines officials said that the layoffs can be traced to schedule adjustments announced last fall. While Jeans gave a specific number, airline spokespeople said that the exact impact on RDU hadn’t been determined yet.
