Auburn company lays off 30 workers

The layoffs are a result of a stalled contract with the Department of Defense, company president Endy China said.
EMCom had an earlier contract with the military for a certain piece of equipment — China would not specify what — that ran out March.
A second contract for an updated version of the same equipment has been delayed by four to six months due to design problems, leading to the layoffs, China said.
The company, located on Columbus Street, manufactures electro-mechanical components such as sensors and circuit boards for military, commercial and automotive clients.
It employs 183 people, according to its website.
The departing employees, all non-union, are from the company’s military division. They should be rehired around the end of the summer once the contract is revived, China said.
Some employees may be rehired sooner due to “some other things we have going on,” China said.
