The Baldwinsville Central School District could cut 52 positions, use $8 million from reserves and raise the tax levy by 2 percent to balance the 2011-2012 budget, said Superintendent Jeanne Dangle tonight.

Dangle said after cutting programs and taking money from reserves the district was still facing a $3.4 million budget gap. To close that gap, Dangle proposed cutting 52 positions. About half of those positions will be layoffs, she said.

Last year the district cut 92.95 positions, which resulted in 29 layoffs. The additional 52 position cuts for next year will result in increased class sizes in all schools. It will also mean a decrease in art and music offerings in the elementary schools.
