The Watertown City School District could see 45 jobs cut and a tax levy hike of 2 percent to bridge a nearly $5 million deficit for next school year.

“This is devastating,” Superintendent Terry N. Fralick said. “Children and parents love these programs; there are teachers who have done a fine job, and fewer teachers mean larger class sizes.”

The proposed staff reductions:

- 25 teaching positions.
- 18 teaching assistants.
- 1 cleaner position.
- 1 clerical position.
