Columbia St. Mary’s lays off 30 managers

In the second of three planned rounds of layoffs, Columbia St. Mary’s Inc. has cut 30 members of its management staff.
Employees were informed earlier this week that their positions had been eliminated.

Taylor said May 20 that organizationwide restructuring was being done to decrease unnecessary layers and to make the system more nimble as it deals with increased competition and changes due to national health care reform.

Competitor Aurora Health Care opened a hospital in Grafton in November, less than five miles from Columbia St. Mary’s-Ozaukee. Since that time, patient admissions in Ozaukee are down about 30 percent.
