Fazakerley hospital to cut 300 jobs in voluntary severance scheme
A MERSEYSIDE hospital is cutting 300 jobs as part of a redundancy scheme.
Fazakerley hospital sent letters to staff offering them a package to leave the NHS trust.
Bosses said 300 posts was a “projection” which may change as people came forward.
They also said the scheme was completely voluntary.
About 5,000 staff are employed by the trust, which also runs Walton hospital. It is thought the job cuts will cover both sites.
The move followed other hospitals and primary care trusts in the region which have offered workers redundancy, including Alder Hey, the Royal Liverpool Hospital and Liverpool PCT.
Fazakerley hospital said it was too early to gauge staff interest in taking the redundancy packages.
A spokesman said: “As with other NHS trusts, we have to deliver efficiency requirements which will see a reduction in our headcount.
“We believe this could affect around 300 posts – but that figure could vary widely depending on the progress of efficiency schemes.
“We envisage the reduction will largely come from natural wastage and this scheme is designed to create vacancies which can be filled by redeployment.”
