Harbor Branch Institute laying off 7 employees

Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at FAU notified the seven engineering technologists and marine mechanics and machinists last month of the pending layoff. The layoff also includes three aquaculture research technicians. They have until September, when their grant-funded program ends.

As a research institute of Florida Atlantic University, Harbor Branch relies on grants and external money, such as specialty license plate sales or state and federal money, to pay for operations, said Harbor Branch Associate Executive Director Megan Davis.
