Nationwide Insurance lays off 90 in northeast Portland, continuing downsizing

Nationwide Insurance has eliminated 90 jobs in Portland, dramatically shrinking its local workforce from what it was three years ago.

Workers at the company’s northeast Portland offices were notified of the layoffs late last week. Giannetti said they affect sales people who dealt with customers who contacted the company by phone or through the Internet.

Nationwide isn’t leaving Portland altogether, Giannetti said. The company will keep 39 employees at a yet-to-be-determined location.
