UT Health Science Center SA Cuts 150 Jobs

The layoffs started Wednesday with nine information technology jobs eliminated.

According to Dr. William Henrich, president of the UT Health Science Center in San Antonio, 50 to 60 jobs will be eliminated with around 90 potential positions not being filled. In all, Henrich estimates a loss of around 150 jobs.


BCC eliminates 29 positions as part of a cost-saving measure

Brevard Community College eliminated 29 positions, including a provost, this week to save the college more than $1.74 million.

Twelve of the positions, including the provost of the Titusville campus at a total salary of $131,905, were already vacant.


265 teachers get layoff notices in Allentown

More than 200 teachers are facing layoffs in the Allentown school district.

School officials distributed layoff notices to 265 teachers . That’s about 18 percent of the district’s teaching staff and more than the school board approved three months ago.


College of Law set to cut up to 20 jobs following staffing review

The College of Law has confirmed that it has launched a redundancy review, with 20 full-time roles at risk of being cut.

The college began the consultation last week, with the cuts set to affect tutor staff members. The redundancies come on the back of a staffing review which found that some of the college’s eight centres were overstaffed, with others understaffed.


Stamford school district lays off 12 teachers

The city school district laid off 12 classroom teachers, in what the teachers’ union president said is the biggest round of layoffs in decades.

In 1982, the Board of Education’s budget was cut by $3.4 million, forcing the board to close Rippowam High School.


Caddo Parish school laysoff 163

163 Caddo Parish school employees find out they’re losing their jobs. The school board approved the staff reductions at Tuesday night’s meeting. The layoffs will impact clerical, maintenance and some central office employees.

The reduction in force was made in part to help Caddo schools offset a $15.9 million budget deficit. Superintendent Dr. Gerald Dawkins expects the board to vote on the final budget June 21st.


InsWeb lays off 11 employees

InsWeb Corp., the local online insurance comparison provider, has laid off 11 workers, or 13 percent of its staff.

InsWeb (Nasdaq: INSW) reported that it was shrinking its workforce after integrating InsWeb and its Potrero Media subsidiary into a single entity.


Harrisburg eyes 226 teacher layoffs, school closures

Harrisburg School District officials are making plans to lay off 226 employees and close four school buildings in the coming school year.

The Patriot-News of Harrisburg reported that the cuts proposed Tuesday are needed to balance the district’s 2011-12 budget, but Superintendent Sybil Knight-Burney said another $8 million in spending cuts could be necessary.


Ludington school board approves 24 teacher layoffs
