St. John’s announces 45 layoffs ahead of nursing hires

St. John’s Hospital is laying off 45 employees as part of a staff “rebalancing” so the hospital can afford 80 new registered nurses who will be hired in coming months, St. John’s officials

“Anytime you have to eliminate a staff position, it’s a very tough day,” chief executive officer Bob Ritz told The State Journal-Register. “We looked at every possible angle.”

The 45 people losing their jobs include maintenance employees, middle managers and upper-level administrators, Ritz said. No more specific breakdown of the positions being eliminated was given.
