The move is part of a shift in corporate management at the hotels, and affected employees may be rehired by the new management companies.
Royco Hotels told the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development it plans to layoff employees at eight hotels around the state, affecting 113 employees, according to the state mandated notices. Under state law, employers with 50 or more employees must give 60 days’ notice before a mass layoff.
“Royco Hotels is a party to a management agreement to provide employees of Supertel Hospitality, which owns and operates motel establishments in numerous Wisconsin communities,” the state said in a press release.
Supertel Hospitality said Monday it has replaced Royco with new management companies to run more than 100 properties. The affected positions won’t be lost, the company said.
Supertel’s 105 hotels are “operated by various third-party management companies under franchise agreements with such brands as Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Sleep Inn and Super 8.”
The Ashwaubenon property is at 2868 S. Oneida St., and the Shawano property is at 211 Waukechon St.
Properties in Sheboygan, Minocqua, Menomonie, Tomah, Portage and Antigo also are affected, according to the state.
The Royco layoffs are expected by May 31.
Employees will not be provided with severance benefits, according to a letter from Royco.
The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development will assist laid off employees.
