Ocala Health System laid off 25 employees this week in what the operator of Ocala Regional Medical Center and West Marion Community Hospital said was a move spurred by cuts in Medicaid funding and in advance of typically slower summer admission rates.

The parent company of The Tampa Tribune, TBO.com and WFLA News Channel 8 laid off 29 employees Monday in a drive to cut costs amid a still-difficult national advertising environment.
The cuts came from across the Florida Communications Group, including 20 from back-office operations such as the press room, and 9 from the newsroom, which included several from the Tribune’s feature staff.

MDI Holdings, a St. Johns County company that provides health care management and technology to employers, has laid off 28 of its 165 employees. Spokeswoman Kelli Furrer said the employees were informed of the layoffs and they were effective immediately.

Brevard Community College eliminated 29 positions, including a provost, this week to save the college more than $1.74 million.
Twelve of the positions, including the provost of the Titusville campus at a total salary of $131,905, were already vacant.

Hillsborough County will lay off 28 employees in coming months as County Administrator Mike Merrill continues to combine departments to save money.
A new department, Fiscal and Support Services-Public Safety and Community Services, is being created out of several divisions with 120 total employee positions.

The $69.7 billion state budget now before Gov. Rick Scott will send tremors through Florida’s struggling economy, with school districts, hospitals and other big employers soon cutting jobs and programs because of a sharp drop in taxpayer dollars, economists say.

Pensacola’s mayor has eliminated 20 jobs from city government.
The jobs are in a number of departments, including parks, housing, library, energy services, sanitation, airport and risk management.
Mayor Ashton Hayward says the jobs are already vacant and he worked with department heads to identify which ones could be eliminated.

The Florida Times-Union will cut its workforce by about 7 percent because revenue is below expectations for this fiscal year, Publisher Lucy Talley said.
The reductions, which could total the equivalent of 30 to 35 full-time jobs, will come from a combination of layoffs and by eliminating vacant positions.

It was the last day of employment for 535 United Space Alliance workers, who turned in their security badges and picked up their termination paperwork at the NASA Shuttle Logistics Depot in Cape Canaveral.
