AIB’s plan to cut its workforce by 2,000 employees is set to be implemented on a phased basis from October onwards, while promotion opportunities will be reintroduced at management level.
At the end of 2010, AIB employed a total of 14,255 staff. In April Mr Hodgkinson said the bank had reduced its workforce by 1,300 people over the previous two years through natural attrition.

Forty-six employees at Kilkeel company Toughglass have been told by management that the business will close after a 30-day consultation process.
The closure will be implemented in phases over the coming months.
Toughglass makes toughened glass for use in buses and coaches – one of its biggest customers was Wrightbus in Ballymena – and it also makes glass for shower enclosures.

66 jobs are to go at credit card company MBNA in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.
The job cuts will be in the form of compulsory redundancies.
Around 1,000 people work for MBNA in Ireland – the majority are based in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is proposing to cut up to 300 jobs held by staff on temporary employment contracts in the mid west as part of a new drive to tackle a €35 million financial deficit in the region, the trade union Impact has maintained.
