Oakwood lays off 168 employees

An official says a southeastern Kentucky facility for mentally disabled adults has laid off 168 employees, reflecting a drop by nearly half of the number of people staying there.

Shannon Ware, CEO of Bluegrass Regional Mental Health-Mental Retardation, which took over Oakwood in 2006, said a total of nearly 200 positions were phased out but that only 168 were filled positions.


Kentucky’s Lexington Herald-Leader cutting 15 jobs

The Lexington Herald-Leader has announced it is cutting 15 jobs to help make up for declining revenue.The positions being eliminated include four that are vacant, the newspaper reported.

The Herald-Leader, owned by The McClatchy Co., based in Sacramento, Calif., has had a series of job cuts since 2008 as it struggles because of the economy and increased competition online.


Covington Could Lay 25 Off Workers

Covington could lay off 25 full-time employees, including police and firefighters, if the economic situation doesn’t improve in the next two months.

The Covington City Commission, by a 4-1 vote, put a contingency plan in place to help meet a projected $3.8 million shortfall for the next fiscal year.
