The British Broadcasting Corp (BBC), the world’s biggest public broadcaster, plans to cut 2,000 jobs and move offices and production outside of London as part of an effort to reduce costs after its funding was frozen.

Armatec, one of the rising stars in London’s military-industrial sector, is laying off 37 workers.
The permanent layoffs are spread across all departments and represent more than 10% of the workforce of 340, said general manager Paul Bergqvist.

L-3 Communication Systems-East, one of the city’s largest employers, announced 45 additional layoffs on Thursday, marking the fourth round of staff reductions in one year.
Employees were notified of their April 21 separation date on Monday.
Among those to be laid off are 26 engineers and 11 technicians, both represented by unions. Also included are eight non-represented workers.

Hundreds of jobs were said to be on the line at Diamond Aircraft in London if a $35-million federal loan didn’t come through — the money hasn’t come through and the jobs started to disappear Monday.

Sutton Council has decided to cut its budget by £30m over the next four years and lose up to 500 jobs.
The Liberal Democrat council voted to cut £13.8m from its 2011/12 budget of £140.4m and said it expected to achieve savings of 20% across the board.

London Underground (LU) is now in the process of implementing the 800 job cuts it announced earlier in the year and is conducting a major restructuring programme at the expense of working conditions and the safety of the travelling public.
