The Daily News reports that the Bogalusa School Board unanimously approved her recommendation to lay off 16 people — mostly teachers — and cut 11 other positions through attrition.

Claiborne Parish schools will eliminate 60 positions — the majority of them teachers — because of an anticipated budget shortfall next school year.
The School Board has approved layoffs, the elimination of unfilled positions and program cuts and changes. The move is aimed at trimming $2.4 million from the district’s $13 million budget.

About 70 Lafourche public-school employees may lose their jobs at the end of the year as the School Board again seeks to balance a shrinking budget.
Proponents say the proposed layoffs are necessary because about $3 million in federal-stimulus money will be gone next year and retiree-related costs increased by another $2.3 million. That means officials have a $5.3 million gap to close.
