Most of those laid off are English, history, social studies or vocational teachers, according to The Commercial Appeal.
More than 250 employees have been laid off this summer by the city school system. Also let go were 95 vocational instructors and 127 managers and clerical workers.
The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis plans to cut 200 jobs early next year, according to a state regulatory filing made public Monday.
