Chesaning Union School District leaders voted to lay off 25 workers, including 12 teachers and one administrator, as part of about $1.7 million in cuts they said are necessary due to declining state aid per pupil.
The Board of Education voted 6 to 0 in favor of the layoffs. Board Secretary Kathy Wasmiller was absent from the meeting.

Traverse City school board members approved a resolution to lay off 16 teachers and a school nurse as part of sweeping budget cuts for next year.
The Traverse City Area Public Schools board of education unanimously passed the resolution at its Monday meeting, a move that means 17 certified staff members’ layoffs as of August 31. Fifteen of the 17 employees were hired in the past year

Forty-eight teachers and two non-instructional staff members will be sidelined from the classroom if a measure to lay them off is approved by the Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education.
The layoffs, if approved, will be effective June 30–the date by which the district must submit a balanced budget to the State of Michigan.

Northville’s Board of Education is expected to approve the layoffs of 59 district staff at a special meeting.
Layoffs include teachers, some part-time and some full-time.

Logansport Memorial Hospital has announced a staff reduction.
According to President and CEO of the hospital, David Ammen, the hosptial will reduce its staff by 13.5 full-time equivalents to help control spending. The hospital currently employs 610 employees.
Declines in reimbursement from Medicaid and Medicare are being blamed for job cuts.

Eighteen pink slips will be given out to teachers in Hamilton Community Schools.
At a special board meeting, the Hamilton Board of Education met in closed session before opening up the meeting to the public and announcing plans to lay off 18 teachers who will be notified by the end of the day today by their building administrator.

Joann Thomas, President of the Atherton Educational Association, said nine teachers could receive notice they will be let go at the end of the school year during board meeting at Atherton High School, 3354 S. Genesee Road.

The Royal Oak Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday night on sweeping cuts and revenue enhancements as an answer to an expected nearly $5 million net funding loss if Gov. Rick Snyder’s budget is approved as proposed in February. The cuts include issuing layoff notices to 27 teachers, increasing average class size to 30 students at all grade levels and increasing pay-to-play athletic fees in the district.

Montague Area Public Schools may have to lay off 18 of its 80 teachers.
Superintendent David Sipka tells WZZM 13 News that the Montague district needs to cut $1.6 million in expenses, based on the revenue projections from Governor Snyder’s proposed budget.
Sipka adds state aid could be cut by $525 per student.
