Sparrow Health System is laying off about 30 employees to cut costs.

The cutbacks at the Lansing area’s largest health care employer – with about 7,500 full-time, part-time and per-diem employees at four hospitals and several medical offices – include leaders and staff members throughout the system.

Baraga County Memorial Hospital reports that it’ll be laying off some of its employees and reducing the hours of others as the result of big losses for the first five months of the current fiscal year.

The total net loss, according to the hospital is $879,653. That’s in addition to last year’s net loss, which was $1,127,077.
