Youth corrections agency to cut 119 jobs

The Oregon Youth Authority plans to eliminate 119 positions this summer because of state budget cuts, OYA leaders.

Planned job cuts include 56 at the MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn and 39 at the Hillcrest Youth Correctional Facility in Salem.


Employment agency that serves Jackson, Josephine counties laying off 39 workers

A southwest Oregon employment agency is cutting nearly half its workers.

The Job Council helps connect unemployed people with job training and services in Josephine and Jackson counties. Executive director Jim Fong tells the Daily Courier his staff is expected to shrink from 89 to 50 employees — a 44 percent reduction.


Datalogic to cut 125 local jobs

Eugene’s struggling recovery stumbled when the high-tech firm Datalogic announced it will move much of its remaining local production work to Asia, resulting in about 125 layoffs over the coming six months.


Portland Opera cuts 42 jobs

Portland Opera has cut the equivalent of seven full-time positions from its staff of 42 because it expects revenue will not match expenses next season. The reductions affect all areas of the company — administrative, marketing, development, production and artistic positions. The layoffs occurred by eliminating some positions, switching positions from fulltime to seasonal and reducing full-time to part-time jobs.


Union Bank to lay off 72 in Everett

Union Bank is laying off 72 employees starting March 31, according to the Employment Security Department of Washington state.

The San Francisco bank is cutting the jobs in its Everett locations.

I’ve put in a call to the bank and will update this post when I learn more about the layoffs.
