A Philadelphia nonprofit serving 3,600 people with disabilities announced that it was laying off 132 employees because of funding cuts from the state.
Liberty Resources Inc., which serves the Philadelphia region and Allentown, already had stopped accepting new clients because of a $13 million shortfall in its $89 million budget, said Thomas Earle, chief executive.

Jostens plans to cut 230 of its roughly 260 State College-area jobs by the third quarter of 2011, the Minnesota yearbook publisher announced.
The move will affect primarily production positions at the company’s plant in Ferguson Township, along Science Park Road, according to Jostens. It’s consolidating significant production operations at a new, state-of-the-art facility in Clarksville, Tenn., a company spokesman said.

The Central Bucks School Board is planning to lay off 37 bus drivers at the end of this school year.
And district Superintendent N. Robert Laws said the board will lay off roughly the same number of bus drivers each year until all of the bus drivers are off the school district’s pay roll.

The Pocono Mountain School District has released a list of teachers and staff affected by cutbacks in the district.
A total of 80 teachers are affected. Their positions are broken down into three categories. There are layoffs, terminations and demotions.
Elementary education has the most layoffs with 11 teachers.

Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) plans to cut nearly 100 jobs from a company office in Pennsylvania.
The notice, sent to the state’s Department of Labor and Industry, said the Palo Alto, Calif.-based technology giant planned to cut 92 jobs from an office in Camp Hill, Penn., on May 31. It is unclear whether this is a targeted cut or part of a broader plan.

Another local school district has announced it has to cut positions, partially because of cuts in Gov. Corbett’s proposed budget.
Officials for the Parkland School District told 69 News that they have to cut about 60 positions. The cuts were announced at a budget seminar held Friday.

Hewlett-Packard Co. has notified the state Department of Labor and Industry that it plans to reduce its workforce by 92 employees at its facility on Grandview Ave. in East Pennsboro Twp.
The California based technology company is required through the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act to notify the state of the planned furloughs by letter.
