LLOYDS Banking Group has announced plans to cut another 325 jobs across its UK business support divisions with up to 40 earmarked to go in Scotland.
Union leaders said they were appalled at the latest cuts, which takes the total number of job slashed since the formation of Lloyds in 2009 to a “staggering” 22,000.

THE head of a leading Scottish university has defended proposals to axe up to 95 jobs as part of a cost-cutting exercise.
In an interview with The Herald, Pamela Gillies, principal of Glasgow Caledonian University, said the institution had to make savings of £12 million over the next three years because of public funding cuts.

Publisher DC Thomson is to cut a total of 15 editorial jobs, with journalists having until today apply for voluntary redundancy.
The editorial team at Glasgow’s Sunday Post newspaper is to be cut by more than half, with 10 job losses out of a team of 19.

The Scottish arm of a US company cut 155 jobs last year as turn-over fell and losses mounted, according to newly-filed accounts.
Sun Microsystems Scotland, based in Linlithgow, was taken over by rival Oracle in January last year, but at the time only a few job losses in administrative roles were expected.

Adam & Company, the top people’s bank, is to lose 130 jobs, or almost 40% of its headcount, as part of the Royal Bank of Scotland’s slimming-down of its wealth division.
The announcement comes hard on the heels of the departure of managing director David Cathie, which RBS announced earlier this month, and follows the purging of the bank’s 10-man board last February.

Council leaders in Scotland’s capital are considering axing 300 jobs as part of a cost-cutting drive, it has been revealed.
The move by Edinburgh City Council comes as local authorities across the country slash services and jobs – affecting education, social work, library services and road repairs – in a bid to save Scotland £300 million.
