Spartanburg recycling plant eliminating 50 jobs

A plastic bottle recycling plant in Spartanburg is laying off 50 workers as it restructures operations.

The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported the employees at NURRC have been laid off.

The plant is partly owned by the Coca-Cola Co. and UURC of Spartanburg. The plant had opened in 2007 and had about 100 employees.


City of Conway to lay off 21 employees

The city of Conway will lay off 21 full-time employees to help balance its budget. Conway’s city council approved the cuts Thursday.

City administrator Bill Graham would not say where the layoffs will occur, but he said they are widespread and will affect nearly all areas of city government, except the police and fire departments.


5,000 jobs on the line in Medicaid cuts

S.C. hospitals, doctors and other health care businesses could cut 5,000 jobs if legislators approve a proposal to reduce what medical providers are paid to treat poor and disabled patients, according to a University of South Carolina study.
