The data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) confirms that the UK entered a double dip recession, having also contracted by 0.3% in the last three months of 2011.
The UK economy contracted by even more than first estimated in the first three months of 2012, with revised GDP figures showing a decline of 0.3%.

UK unemployment falls 45,000, mortgage lending goes up - are we finally shaking off recession? @
The total number of jobless fell to 2.63 million, according to the Office for National Statistics, its lowest level since last summer. That brought the unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2012 down to 8.2%, from 8.4% in the last three months of 2011.

A MERSEYSIDE hospital is cutting 300 jobs as part of a redundancy scheme.
Fazakerley hospital sent letters to staff offering them a package to leave the NHS trust.
Bosses said 300 posts was a “projection” which may change as people came forward.
They also said the scheme was completely voluntary.
