Insight Schools to lay off 168 in Bellevue

Insight Schools, an online high school with an office in Bellevue, has notified Washington state that it will be laying off 168 employees as of July 18.

Insight sent the state Employment Security Department the notice, as required 60 days before a mass layoff, defined as 50 or more employees at a single location.


Six Wapato teachers get layoff notices

Five full-time teachers and a part-time teacher were given layoff notices , Wapato School District officials announced.

As lawmakers grapple with the state budget, the district is preparing for the “worst budget case scenario,” school officials said in a news release.


Spokane Public Schools sent out 238 layoff notices

Officials with Spokane Public Schools confirm 238 layoff notices went out Monday to teachers and staff.

The employees were notified in person Monday by their principal and will receive an official letter Friday.

The district is anticipating having to cut between nine and 12 million dollars, depending on the state legislature’s education budget.


Cardiac Science plans 54 layoffs in Bothell

Bothell-based medical-device manufacturer Cardiac Science has notified the state Employment Security Department it will lay off 54 employees this summer.

The move comes four months after Opto Circuits of India acquired Cardiac for roughly $55 million.


Issaquah School District could lose up to 51 teachers

f the worst were to happen, Issaquah School District’s budget would take quite a hit for the next school year.

Although the Legislature has yet to finalize its biennial budget, the district is required, through its contract with the Issaquah Education Association teachers’ union, to alert teachers about impending layoffs by the last school board meeting in April.


Washington Hospital Center laying off 200

Washington Hospital Center said it will cut 200 employees by the start of the new fiscal year July 1.

The cuts, which will occur across all departments, total about 3 percent of the hospital’s 6,200 employees. The hospital will also close one of its medical floors, eliminating an entire nursing unit.


U.S. Postal Service to cut 7500 jobs

The Washington Post is reporting that the U.S. Postal Service is expected to detail how it plans to cut about 7,500 administrative positions.

Postal officials previously announced plans to cut the 7,500 positions in January, and Thursday’s announcement clarifies which positions are impacted.

The job cuts are expected to impact about 2,000 postmasters.


Union Bank to lay off 72 in Everett

Union Bank is laying off 72 employees starting March 31, according to the Employment Security Department of Washington state.

The San Francisco bank is cutting the jobs in its Everett locations.

I’ve put in a call to the bank and will update this post when I learn more about the layoffs.
