North Rockland budget may cut 60 teachers

Making its service affordable for the community in the years to come has been at the center of discussions in the North Rockland school district these days.

North Rockland Schools Superintendent Ileana Eckert said that piece by piece, she started presenting her 2011-12 budget proposal in January to leave enough time for school board members and the public to digest difficult challenges facing North Rockland.


West Contra Costa Unified School to cut 138 positions

The West Contra Costa Unified School District board has voted to eliminate the equivalent of 138.6 teaching and other credentialed positions for the 2011-12 school year.

The move means that current class maximums at the elementary schools will be retained. They are: 24 at kindergarten, 20 at first and second, 28 at third, and 33 for fourth through sixth grades.
