White Plains lays off 8 city workers

Pink slips were sent out to eight city employees, informing them that as of July 1, their jobs will become “defunded,” Chief of Staff John Callahan said.

The layoffs, which the city says will save $625,000 in salary and benefits, come six weeks after the Civil Service Employees Association rejected a contract proposal.

Six of the eight layoffs are civil service workers; two are non-union employees.
