YCCD layoff 40 Support staff

The Yosemite Community College District affirmed further cuts at Modesto Junior College , making official the elimination of more than 40 support staff jobs for 2011-12.

The vote was 7-0 to make the cuts first outlined at the same time as faculty and program reductions, which were finalized in early March to help close an anticipated $8 million budget gap.

The support staff cuts included workers at the Wawona child care center, secretaries, library helpers and accounting workers. People affected included several part-time workers and some full-time workers who lost hours. The total hours cut was equal to 40 full-time jobs.
